This swansong Samara story based on the tonylarge.net archive and recently rediscovered and scarce photos, is based on two of the Samaras in my collection, and their final appearances on the 1989 and 1990 RAC rallies, driven by Red Barry/Steve Boome.
Interestingly for me both cars were entered under the registration E123BKX, something that had confused me for years when researching their history!
The white and red Samara photos are from the 1989 RAC rally where the ex Guy Anderson car was entered following its successful Lada challenge winning year. Sadly the success did not continue and the car retired during the event with engine failure. Following the event, the car was upgraded to a 1500 A6 spec and was used only once more by Red on the 1990 Hackle Rally in Scotland.
